Tyler is a second-year student at Penn State University, double-majoring in Telecommunications & Media Industries (Telecom) and in Education & Public Policy (EPP). Although these majors may seem unrelated, together they support his lifelong mission: to create as much positive change as possible. Mass communication allows him to reach extensive audiences, while education equips him to address structural barriers and strengthen civic participation.
As media historian Josh Sheppard notes, early noncommercial media advocates believed that "technology could reconcile social inequalities by increasing informational access." Inspired by this vision, Tyler is committed to creating and championing media that not only reaches people, but truly serves them. He is particularly interested in how public interest media has evolved through the digital age — working to understand these shifts in order to innovate media systems that prioritize community impact over commercial interests.
Currently, Tyler is gaining hands-on experience with companies and nonprofits whose work strongly aligns with his values. At the same time, he is deepening his understanding of educational media through research in this meaningful and often overlooked field.
